Sunday 13 July was a vibrant day at Powerhouse Castle Hill, full of creativity, learning, and connection through textiles. We welcomed visitors for our third Lace Workshop, alongside the school holiday Textiles Studio and a hands-on textiles-themed activity station.

Lace Workshop
Our third lace-making workshop was a wonderful success, drawing enthusiastic participants eager to explore the delicate craft of lace. Expertly led by the talented Isa, with the support of our dedicated lace volunteer Edna, the session offered a deep dive into the rich heritage and intricate techniques of lace-making.

Participants enjoyed creating their own lace fish in a relaxed, intimate setting, which was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback—the next workshop in August is already fully booked!
The Lace Workshop now runs on the second Sunday of each month—join us next time!

Powerhouse Materials: Textiles Studio
Volunteers supported this fun and extremely popular program, helping visitors of all ages craft their own soft toys inspired by objects from the Powerhouse Collection.

Using remnant and deadstock fabrics, participants explored new textile techniques and made creative connections with our current exhibition, Powerhouse Materials: Textiles—the first instalment in the Powerhouse Materials series.

Textiles Activity Station
Interactive Volunteers trialled a new textiles activity station, featuring a beautiful antique Singer sewing machine, a hands-on weaving activity, and fashion-themed storytelling experiences. The station added another layer of creativity and engagement for visitors.
Thank You
A huge thank you to all the incredible volunteers who supported the Lace Workshop, the Textiles Studio, and the activity station. Your creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment truly bring these programs to life—we couldn’t do it without you.
Here’s to many more inspiring Sundays at Powerhouse Castle Hill!
