Sunday 14 September was a quieter day at Powerhouse Castle Hill, most likely due to the beautiful spring weather! But for those who joined us, the atmosphere was relaxed, creative, and filled with meaningful moments of connection and discovery through textiles.

Our fifth Lace Workshop welcomed both new faces and returning participants who’ve been developing their skills over several sessions. It was inspiring to see how far some have come — crafting more intricate lace designs and really embracing the art of lace-making, all while surrounded by stunning lace pieces from the Powerhouse Collection.

Leather tag making was as popular as ever, especially with younger visitors. Children chose their own leather pieces and used letter stamps and hammers to imprint their initials — a noisy, tactile, and very satisfying activity. A big thank you to volunteer Jasmin, who once again brought fantastic energy and guidance to this much-loved station.

At the textiles-themed activity station, visitors tried their hand at weaving, enjoyed fashion-inspired storytelling (because who doesn’t love a Coco Chanel tale!), and explored the charm of an antique Singer sewing machine. These interactive experiences offered something for all ages to enjoy.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped bring all of this to life. Even on quieter days, your enthusiasm and creativity make a lasting impact — and help keep the Powerhouse Castle Hill experience so special for all who attend.
