On Thursday 25 September, Powerhouse Parramatta hosted a special community BBQ that brought together friends, families, volunteers, staff and partners for an afternoon of connection and celebration.
The day was already buzzing with activity. Earlier in the morning, we welcomed audiences to our Collection Conversation at PHive, and it was lovely to see many of those visitors join us later at the BBQ. Afterwards, we held a Volunteers Induction, so it was the perfect opportunity to introduce new and existing members of our volunteer community to one another.
Rotary Parramatta generously fired up the BBQ and treated us to an array of delicious classics. Adding to the flavour, Kylie Kwong brought along special guests from the food producers’ community, who shared an assortment of treats that delighted everyone.
Many families came along, curious and excited about the new museum and the experiences it will offer. Their energy and enthusiasm underscored how much the new Powerhouse Parramatta means to the local community.
We received numerous requests from community members interested in becoming volunteers. Our HR team, alongside Social Ventures Australia and EmployAbility, were on hand to discuss local recruitment services and pathways for participation.
The event was a moment to celebrate what makes Parramatta special: people coming together. Volunteers, families, local organisations, and community leaders all sharing stories, food, and a sense of excitement for what lies ahead with the opening of Powerhouse Parramatta.
It was an afternoon of connection, collaboration, and celebration. Thanks to everyone that helped make it so.
Join us for the next BBQ on 04 December.
